SWWFC Environmental Policy
The South & West Wales Fishing Communities Ltd. recognises that,
in the interests of its members, the communities in which they live,
the wider world and future generations, it has a duty to incorporate
the principals of sustainability and environmental stewardship in the
execution of all its business and other activities.
Accordingly, it will, in conjunction with meeting the business development
and financial needs of its members:
- Work with others to :
- Identify and establish best environmental practice
in all activities of the Association, particularly with regard
to:
- The fishing operations of its members.
- The design and specification of the gear used in
fishing operations.
- Assist in the carrying out of scientifically designed
and monitored investigations into the ecology and biology of
marine organisms and ecosystems to further understanding and
improve their sustainable management.
- Educate the general public in:
- The environmental and cultural value of buying fish
derived from local, sustainable fisheries.
- The benefits to health of including quality fresh
and processed fish products in the diet.
- Forge partnerships with others to promote awareness and understanding
of:
- Marine and estuarial organisms, environments and ecosystems.
- Their conservation and management.
- The sustainable utilisation of their resources.
- Whilst seeking to meet the requirements of pollution and other
environmental safeguard legislation in all its activities, also work
to educate others in the need for active environmental protection.
- Seek to establish sustainable fisheries and to work towards accreditation
of those fisheries through a recognised accreditation scheme.
- Regularly review its administrative and office procedures and
practices to ensure that usage of materials, energy and other consumables
is minimised.
- Establish, operate and regularly review a policy of recycling
wherever possible.
